There is a reason hot pink and orange are a popular
decorator combination. Orange Honey Miniature Rose puts these colors
together in a two inch plus size bloom and a two feet by two feet size
bush. Roses start out a sunset orange and open to reveal yellow highlights. As the flowers gracefully age, they take on a pink tone.
Orange Honey is a definite show stopper and favorite here in our nursery, just as it was in Ralph Moore's
Sequoia Nursery when he introduced it in 1979.
Like all roses, miniature roses are sun loving and fairly
drought resistant. Plant in well drained soil and fertilize with an organic fertilizer
in the spring. Dead canes can be pruned anytime but most pruning
occurs in the fall when we shape the plant to the desirable height and
width. All rose petals are
edible, if grown organically, and make attractive garnishes for salads.
They can be added after cooking to almost any dish. Whole buds can be
used to decorate cakes or other confections. Before using any flower in
food, a sample flower should be pulled apart and inspected for insects.
Orange Honey produces rose hips that turn shades of green, gold
and orange in early fall which can add interest to a
wreath or arrangement. Rose hips are also high in Vitamin C and make a
tasty tea, which makes this plant a great addition to our
Tea Herb Garden Six Pack.
Orange Honey Miniature Rose would make an excellent addition to our Crafter's Herb Garden
Six Pack for Zones 8-11 or our
Crafter's Herb Garden Six Pack for
Zones 5-11 and to our Edible Flower Herb Garden
