to be kept in their starter pot too long. For this reason, we don't offer
many annuals in three inch pots. However, since some of the nicest herbs and
flowers are annuals, we offer these as certified organic seeds. And, with

Ornamental Sunflower Varieties:
Mexican Sunflower has the most incredible orange-red flowers. Not
truly a sunflower, it reaches 6 to 8 feet tall and has lots of 2 to 4 inch
flowers. It attracts butterflies and can be used as a cut flower.
Jerusalem Sunrise Lemon has 4 to 5 inch flowers on multi branched
stems and can grow to 5 feet. Use as a cut flower or leave for the birds.
Evening Sun is our favorite ornamental sunflower. The stalks and
leaves as well as the flowers are deep maroon. Each flower is between 4 and
6 inches and the 6 to 10 foot stalks are multi-branched. Makes a wonderful
cut flower or just enjoy its splendid color in the garden.
Edible Sunflower Varieties:
Russian Mammoth with its 10 to 14 inch sungold flower heads can reach

|The Gourmet Greens
Seed 6-Pack includes:
Mustard Greens (Brassica juncea):
The darker the
vegetable the more vitamins it has (not to mention that it is prettier,
too). This dark purple, green-ribbed leaf mustard is bursting with flavor
and nutrition in each giant leaf (6 to 10 inches). To keep it growing as
long as possible, harvest the outside leaves only.
Italian Rustic Sylvetta Arugula (Diplotaxis muralis): This unique
form of Arugula has a slightly sharper flavor than garden Arugula. It
reseeds easily and can be perennial in zones 8-10. Arugula flowers have a
nutty flavor and make a great garnish.
Golden Purslane (Portulaca oleracea): Purslane is not widely used in
the United States which is a real shame. It is the highest know plant source
of Omega 3 fatty acids. In Asia it is highly prized as an addition to
stir-fires. Try a handful with sautéed onions and tomatoes. Each plant
covers about a square foot.
Garden Sorrel (Rumex acetosa): If a green could be spring, sorrel
would be the one. The tart lemony flavor of fresh young sorrel leaves is an
experience not to be missed. Sorrel is a perennial which will reward you
every spring with new lemony leaves. Older leaves may be dried and added to
just about everything. To have a spring crop this year, start the seeds
about 5 weeks before frost.
Persian Garden Cress (Lepidium sativum): This early spring green adds
peppery zest to salads and sandwiches. High in calcium, phosphate, iron,
copper and Vitamins A and C, Persian Garden Cress is a must have green. Sow
in the cool of spring and again in the fall.
Huazontle--Red Aztec Spinach (Chenopodium berlandieri): Related to
Epazote, this spinach is a heat lover with tender young leaves that can be
eaten raw. Or, wait until the leaves mature and turn Dark Red and braise
them with onions.
Our Annual Herb Seed 6 Pack
includes the most popular annual herbs. Most annual herbs may be started
indoors in late winter for transplanting outside after frost. Always
transplant before the plants become root bound and take care not to damage
the roots. Any stress to the plant can cause an annual to go to seed or die.

spring crop. The seeds of the cilantro plant are called coriander.
Summer Savory (Satureja hortensis): A warm
weather annual, Summer Savory seeds can be started indoors during late
winter or directly planted outside after frost. Summer Savory is a small
plant that grows only about 8 to 10 inches in diameter. It can be used like
Borage (Borago officinalis): A warm weather annual, Borage seeds may
be planted after frost and until mid summer. Borage likes plenty of
water and shade in the afternoon during hot summer months. The flowers and
the leaves are scented of cucumber. Borage is a prolific reseeder.
Sweet Marjoram (Origanum marjorana): A warm weather annual, Sweet
Marjoram seeds can be started indoors during late winter or directly planted
outside after frost. Sweet Marjoram has a distinctive "soapy" smell that
translates to a delicious, distinctive taste.
Dill (Antheum graveolens): A warm weather annual, Dill seeds can be
started indoors during late winter or directly outside after frost. Dill
leaves and Dill seeds are used in cooking. For more about Dill, please visit
our Dill page.
German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita): A warm weather annual, German
Chamomile seeds can be started indoors during late winter or directly
planted outside after frost. German Chamomile should be planted every 4 or 5
weeks up until mid summer.
